I used to run win him and sometimes with Escalera in Isla Verde and at the beach near the Llorens Torres Housing project many years ago. I also would bump into him acasionally in New York, especially before his first fight with Benny Briscoe, after as well. I first met Luis when he was comming up here in Puerto Rico because when he fought Angel 'Cholo' Espada acouple of times I was working out with the Espada stable headed by trainer Saso Betancourt. His other fighters were then lightweight contender and Champion Carlos 'Teo' Cruz, Vicente Rondon and even Joe 'King' Roman. There were others like ex-140lb world challenger Josue Marquez (whom I ran into just recently at his cafereria/resturant on Calle Guayama in Hato Rey. I remember going visiting with Vinales when he was living in the Luis Llorens Torres Project and we did hang out ocasionally both here in in the states and with him on a couple of his fights. He would fight anybody, anywhere, on short notice, in or out of fighting weight. WASN'T the most disciplined fighter but neither were alot of us back then. Luis spent alot of his times between the states and Puerto Rico as you know and on the road. I lost contact with Luis decades ago. How is he doing? peace.
